There’s something about Bobbi Lane that feels a little bit like your coolest friend’s beach house.
If your coolest friend also happened to make a dangerously good coffee, curate the perfect worn and vintage selections, and somehow convince everyone on the Sunshine Coast to become morning people. A space for conscious fashion, community and coffee, the Marcoola, and Sunshine Coast’s favourite has become less of a café and more of a daily ritual for locals.
Founded by Kimberley Thompson, Bobbi Lane is equal parts espresso bar, curated lifestyle store and community hub, where sandy feet, Pilates sets, dogs on leads and oversized sunglasses all feel equally at home. There’s always someone popping in “just for a coffee” and leaving an hour later with a pastry, a conversation and a quirky piece they absolutely did not plan on buying.
Come Friday afternoon, the mood shifts. Coffee cups make way for wine glasses and margaritas… The playlists get louder, a live DJ steps in and suddenly Bobbi Lane feels less coastal café and more European disco, just by the beach. Think trendy fashion, natural wine, golden hour spilling onto the street and the kind of energy that makes you cancel your plans to stay for one more drink. In a way that feels fresh and entirely its own, Bobbi Lane is quietly bringing disco culture back to the Sunshine Coast, just with better coffee and cooler outfits.
The vibe? Somewhere between Mediterranean summer and your group chat’s dream life. Handmade pieces, locally sourced finds, fresh pastries, good music and the kind of staff that remember your order before you’ve even fully opened your eyes. It’s warm, playful and completely unpretentious in the way only truly cool places manage to be.
For this month’s The Drop, we sat down with Kim to talk about all things Bobbi Lane, from building community through coffee to creating a space that feels more like a feeling than a venue.
And yes, there may or may not be a wine involved.
