A Personal Note, By Chelsey Birch

This Father’s Day feels a little different for me. It’s the first one I get to celebrate my husband as a dad, and watching him become a father has been one of the proudest moments of my life.

There’s something really special about seeing someone you love step into a role you know will shape them forever. Watching him learn, adapt, care and love our Elkie girl in his own way has made me see him differently. I’ve always been proud of him, but seeing him become a dad has brought a whole new kind of admiration.

It’s in the small moments I notice it most. The way he shows up, the patience he has found, the little things he does without thinking, and the way our girl looks at him. There is so much love in those moments, and I feel incredibly lucky that I get to watch it unfold.

Becoming parents has also made me think about my own dad and the role he has played in my life. As you get older, you begin to understand your parents in a different way, not just as Mum and Dad, but as people who were figuring things out as they went, doing their best and loving you along the way.

I’m grateful for everything my dad has taught me, for the support he has always given me and for the steady presence he has been throughout my life. I know how lucky I am to have him, and becoming a parent myself has only made me appreciate that more.

I know days like this can carry a different weight for others. For those who are missing their dad, navigating a complicated relationship, or quietly longing for the chance to become one themselves. It’s a reminder that there isn’t one way to experience a day like Father’s Day, and that behind the celebrations there can be a lot of different stories.

This year, I feel especially grateful for both of these men. For the dad who helped shape who I am, and for the dad I get to watch shape the little person we love more than anything.

A Final Note

And that’s the edit. From everyday pieces he’ll actually use to considered additions to his wardrobe, home and weekends, this year’s Father’s Day guide is less about finding something for the sake of it and more about choosing something that feels right for him.

Whether it’s a bottle worth sharing, a new piece for his collection, a long lunch, or an experience you can enjoy together, the best gifts tend to have a little thought behind them. After all, Father’s Day is as much about making time as it is about what’s wrapped up at the end of it.
